Germany's David Will and the 12-year-old Mexico (Niveau x Tornesch) won Friday's CSI4*-W 1.45m Prix de La Marche Verte in Tetouan, as the Morocco Royal Tour 2022 got underway.
Counting for the Longines Ranking, the 1.45m Grand Prix qualifier was judged as a Faults & Time class and had a total of 52 horse-and-rider-combinations at start. Stopping the clock on 71.38, Will took the top honours ahead of Mouda Zeyada (EGY) on Katia (Emerald x Lancelot) in second, Niels Kersten (NED) on Tippy Z (Tyson x Jetset-D) in third, Francisco Jose Mesquita Musa (BRA) on Carte de Blue PS Marathon (Cartoon 21 x Chacco-Blue) in fourth and Simon Delestre (FRA) on I Amelusina R 51 (Dexter R x Chin Chin) in fifth.
"I took the risk to win because I knew then that even with a fault, it would still be enough to qualify for the Grand Prix," Will said in a press release from Morocco Royal Tour. "I open the throttle at the beginning because I knew that there were other very fast riders who would come after me. It was risky, but it worked”. Speaking of the venue in Tetouan, Will said: "It's amazing here. It's really great for the horses and the riders. Everything is perfectly organized, this stadium is beautiful, there is a lot of public and the atmosphere was already huge today. It is really a pleasure to be here".
