The Longines Global Champions Tour of Shanghai kicks off with wins for Jodie Hall McAteer and Julien Anquetin

Great Britain's Jodie Hall McAteer and Kimosa van het Kritrahof (Chatman x Eros Platiere) topped Friday's CSI5* 1.45m opening class in Shanghai, China, where the Longines Global Champions Tour has landed for the fourth stop of the 2024-season at the spectacular Shanghai World Expo Equestrian Park. 

Counting for the Longines Ranking Group D, the 1.45m competition in two phases saw 34 horse-and-rider-combinations at start, with Hall McAteer and Kimosa van het Kritrahof taking the top honours with a time of 33.53 ahead of Pius Schwizer (SUI) and Chill MA (Crunch x Alcatraz) in second in 35.71. Denis Lynch (IRL) and Cordial (Casall x Chicago Z) placed third with a time of 36.13, while Marcus Ehning (GER) and DPS Revere (Hermes de Reve x Dobel's Cento) finished fourth in 37.11. Jerome Guery (BEL) and Careca LS Elite (Carusso La Silla x Rebozo La Silla) completed the top five after clocking a time of 37.13 seconds. 

The second CSI5* class of the day – a 1.45m speed class counting for the Longines Ranking Group D – went to France's Julien Anquetin and Farah Tame (Quadrio Tame x Panama Tame). “It’s crazy here in Shanghai," the happy winner said to GCTV. "I’ve really never seen anything like this before. It’s amazing – the lights, the atmosphere, it all has just been phenomenal today.” 

Stopping the clock on 63.86, Anquetin and Farah Tame were the fastest of the 30 pairs at start in the competition judged as Table A against the clock, followed by Gilles Thomas (BEL) and Feromas van Beek Z (Fantomas de Muze x Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve) in second in 64.23. Harry Allen (IRL) and Lukaku vd Bisschop (Plot Blue x Utrillo Z) took third with a time of 64.24, ahead of Daniel Deusser (GER) and Otello de Guldenboom (Tobago Z x Caretino) in fourth in 64.99. Jerome Guery (BEL) and Come Away Flamingo Z (Cardento x Dollar du Murier) placed fifth with a time of 66.53.
