Only one horse-and-rider combination managed to deliver a double clear round in Sunday's CSI4* 1.55m Grand Prix of Hessen presented by Deutschen Vermögensberatung AG at the Internationales Festhallen Reitturnier Frankfurt: France's Julien Anquetin and the 10-year-old gelding Z Ice Cube Z (Zacharov x Casco). Third out in a jump-off of four, Anquetin was the fastest – taking all the risk to cross the timers in 30.65 seconds.
With a rail down in 30.75 seconds, Koen Vereecke (BEL) had to settle for second aboard his stallion Kasanova de la Pomme (Bamako de Muze x Malito des Reve), while four faults in 33.07 seconds left Graham Gillespie – first man out in the jump-off – and Veneno (Chacco-Blue x Baloubet du Rouet) to third. As last to go, Rik Hemeryck (BEL) had to add eight faults to his score and ended fourth with Navarro van het Eelshof (Jappeloup vh Dauwhof x Poleander), while Pia Reich (GER) was best on behalf of the host nation when finishing fifth after collecting a time fault in round one with PB Löwenherz (Levisto x Contender).
"Ice Cube has always had one or two down here in Frankfurt, but I learned from him that I shouldn't put too much pressure on him, that I should let him jump alone and that worked today. In addition, he is an absolutely fast horse. He did a great job,” the happy winner commented.
