France’s Kevin Staut delivered one of three double clear rounds in Thursday’s 1.60m class in Gijon – presented by OQUENDO – to take the top honours.
The class counting for the Longines Ranking had 59 combinations entered. The track proved challenging though, and only eight riders qualified for the jump-off where Kevin Staut and For Joy van't Zorgvliet HDC (For Pleasure x Heartbreaker) crossed the finish line nearly a second ahead of runners-up Jur Vireling (NED) and Zypern III (Casall x Coriano). Catherine Van Roosbroeck (BEL) and Gautcho Da Quinta (Cicero Z van Paemel x Upsilon vd Heffinck) followed in third place with the last double clear in the class. Keith Shore (GBR) and Samantha McIntosh (NZL) completed the top five, both riders collected time penalties in the second round.
