France's Kevin Staut and Visconti du Telman (Toulon x Dollar du Murier, bred by Marjorie & Francoise Sanguinetti) won Friday's CSI5* 1.55m Prix des Communes Genevoises – the second and last qualifier for Sunday's Rolex Grand Prix – at the 2023-edition of CHI Geneva.

Twelve pairs out of the 56 horse-and-rider-combinations at start cleared the 1.55m track set by Gérard Lachat (SUI) and Louis Konixck (NED) in the class judged as Table A against the clock. Fastest of them, with a time of 64.33, were Staut and Visconti du Telman, who took the win ahead of Germany's Hans-Dieter Dreher and Vestmalle des Cotis (Baloubet du Rouet x Landor S, bred by Rudy Cock & Christine Cock Leva) in second in 65.85.

"The class was difficult," Staut told World of Showjumping after his victory. "It is always difficult when you have really technical parts while also having to rush to be fast and a few riders still had to qualify. You had the double of verticals – it is a classic – with a lot of mistakes there, again the water at number five and the short turn to the water did its job. It was a good competition; already when we walked the course, it seemed to be difficult enough."

"I am really happy with Visconti," Staut said about his horse. "She had a little bit of a rest this year after Aachen, and then she started again in the indoor shows in Oslo and Helsinki, and since Madrid she felt really back. I made a huge mistake there, missing the last jump in the jump-off when she was close to win it, so I think this was a good revenge, as she did not deserve what happened in Madrid. She is really back now, and I hope I can continue like this."

Ireland's Daniel Coyle and Legacy (Chippendale Z x Bon Ami, bred by Romain Rotty) placed third in 66.09, while the hosts' very own Pius Schwizer and Just Special VK (Falaise de Muze x Toulon, bred by M. van Kleef/Stoeterij van Kleef) finished fourth in 66.31 and Germany's Marcus Ehning fifth in 66.85 aboard Stargold (Stakkato Gold x Lord Weingard, bred by Gestüt Sprehe GmbH).
