The Longines FEI World Cup season 2016/2017 will conclude with the prestigious final in Omaha (USA) in less than two week’s time. World of Showjumping asked Kevin Staut (FRA) – who topped the overall standing in the Western European League – about his thoughts ahead of the important weekend to come.

“I am going to Omaha with Reveur de Hurtebise HDC (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Capricieux des Six Censes). He is my championship horse, so bringing him means I do put a lot of value to this final. He has jumped really well since Rio and has done a few World Cups this season. His last show was s’Hertogenbosch, where he was fifth in the Grand Prix. Reveur seems to be in good form, so I expect a good result – but you just never know, I have to ride good as well,” Kevin told us.

Omaha as a venue is new for everyone. “We don’t know so much about the event facilities in Omaha, even if we have asked the American riders. We really have no idea what the venue will be like. I hope it is not like Las Vegas; I really did not like that final. We have not gotten so much information about the show; we only know the size of the arena, but don’t know the footing for example. But I hope the facilities will be good.”

And who does Kevin think will do well? “Many riders are motivated for this final, so it will be difficult. There are also a few of the top names that surprisingly did not qualify – like Christian and Daniel – but okay, maybe they chose another goals for their seasons. For France we have Olivier Robert, who is riding his first final –then we have Simon Delestre and Eric Navet, the latter is based in the States. We have four French riders, which is nice – when you go far, it is great to go together and have the feeling of team spirit. It can make a difference in the end.”

“Equestrian sport is equestrian sport – we will see what happens in America. But I am very motivated; I have no show the week before so I can focus on riding my horse. The horses are flying on Friday afternoon and I fly on Monday, so I will arrive early enough.”
