Close-Up

Corbinian. World Cup Champion and Horse of the Year 2016 in Switzerland. At home he is called Fabio by his grooms, although their nick name for him is not to his rider’s liking so he calls him Corbi. “Corbinian is quite easy to look after,” his grooms Heidi Mulari and Emma Uusi-Simola state. “Steve is the one who has more work with him, Cornet Obolensky x Pilot-pedigree definitely has given him lot of character.”

“I have heard he was quite a handful as a youngster,” Heidi tells. “Steve also had some discussions with Corbinian in the beginning, but nowadays he is fighting for him and not against him! Still, we grooms rarely go alone with him in the forest, that is just asking for unnecessarily trouble – better go with another horse and he enjoys it much more. Alone he might see scary things...”

“Water is his element! He absolutely loves to go into water! In our old stable was a little pond next to a grazing area, and the first time he went for grass he nearly dragged me into the water. Luckily the lead rope was long enough so I did not end up in knee-high water... In Oliva he is having great time when Steve rides him in the sea.”

“Grooming-vice Fabio is really easy. He is a strong and sound horse so he does not need too much extra. As long as his back stays loose he is good to go. Handily he nearly takes care of that himself and rolls every time after riding,” Heidi continues about Guerdat’s super star.

“Always when possible we let him in the paddock after riding so he can do his things, even at the shows! He is not the most nervous type, but sometimes he has small issues with eating. For example, he wont eat his hay until he has had a proper workout. He will eat his grain but wont touch the hay until Steve has ridden him. Sometimes at the shows when Steve rides him only in the afternoon it gets a bit frustrating… “

“With clipping we had some issues in the beginning because he has such a ticklish and sensitive skin but nowadays he is much better. Generally, Fabio is a happy and friendly horse, who hopefully will do many more great things during his career.”

And with this, we zoom in on Corbinian.
