At the age of 60, Geir “Jimmy” Gulliksen took his first Longines FEI World Cup victory – in Gothenburg, Sweden.
After two picture-perfect rounds, Jimmy and VDL Groep Quatro took the win home for Norway and also gave the crowds a prize giving ceremony that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
As the lap of honour was getting closer, VDL Groep Quatro ran out of patience and made a full-speed 90-degree turn to push Jimmy out of the saddle.
When Jimmy didn’t get back up on his feet, protective screens were brought up by first aiders with the crowds falling silent – holding their breath for several minutes, only to explode when Jimmy showed up behind the screens with a victory sign.
