The Longines FEI World Cup Western European League has arrived in Gothenburg, Sweden, for its 13th and last qualifier of the 2017/2018 season. The action got underway on Thursday evening with a 1.50m against the clock presented by ATG.
Marcus Ehning (GER) on the 15-year-old stallion Cornado NRW (Cornet Obolensky x Acobat) held on to the lead with a time of 67,73 seconds until the last pair – Michael Whitaker (GBR) on the 12-year-old mare JB's Hot Stuff (Locarno 62 x Cavalier Royale) – entered the ring. Crossing the finish line in a time of 66,11 seconds, Whitaker took home the win and pushed Ehning into the runner-up position.
Daniel Deusser (GER) on the 11-year-old stallion Cassini Bay (Cassini I x Acord II) took the third place with a time of 70,52 seconds, while Max Kühner (AUT) on the 13-year-old gelding Cornet Kalua (Cornet Obolensky x Platin) placed fourth after stopping the clock at 71,15 seconds. The fifth spot went to Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE) on the 12-year-old mare H&M Cue Channa (Cardento x Robin Z), after the pair clocked a time of 75,83 seconds.
The first five-star class of the event, a 1.40m against the clock presented by AGRIA went to Michael Jung (GER) on the 10-year-old mare fischerChelsea (Check In x Argent) with a time of 55,13 seconds. Cornelia Rylén (SWE) on the 12-year-old gelding Rasputin (breeding unknown) took the runner-up position with a time of 58,37 seconds, while Robert Whitaker (GBR) on the 9-year-old Noble Warrior (Warrior x Casantos) placed third with a time of 58,8. Evelina Tovek (SWE) on the 10-year-old gelding Mill's Sheridan (Empire x Iowa) took the fourth spot, while the fifth place went to Geir Gulliksen (NOR) on the 12-year-old gelding VDL Groep Quatro (Quaprice Bois Margot x Caletto I).
