Holsteiner Elite Riding Horse Auction 2015

Dito and Chris Chugg.

The internationally successful show jumping rider Chris Chug purchased the top auction horse, Dito by Diarado-Canturo, and answered some questions of the Holsteiner auction team.

Last year was the first time you attended a Holsteiner riding horse auction. What made you travel to the far north of Germany?

The Verband auction was recommended to me by a good friend Sophia Gostellow who you have done a lot of work with in the past so I decided to view the videos and one horse caught my eye so I decided to make the trip over.

Have you had Holsteiner horses at your stable before?

I actually purchased 2 holsteiners from an Australian breeder Kerri Parker from Cera Performance Horses. A then 7yr stallion by Cassini I who Kerri imported and purchased from you as a foal, he is now 8yrs and winning World Cups here in Australia and also a lovely 6yr mare by Clearway who she bred herself, they were my first introduction to the Holsteiner breed and I am very impressed!

At the Neumünster auction, you purchased the top-selling lot, Dito by Diarado-Canturo. Why were you so impressed with this then 4-year-old?

Dito caught my eye with his balance and natural athleticism and softness in his jump. I did not get to jump him at all before purchasing him but he gave me a great feeling on the flat of being a real athlete prior to the auction, he rode like a 7yr old even though he was only 4yrs at the time so I had a good feeling about him, congratulations must go to his trainer before me as not all young 4yr olds have such a good start. I need such a rider at my stable if you know someone!

How did you like the Holsteiner Grading and Auction at Neumünster?

It was a great eye opener in to what holsteiners represent. It's always fantastic to watch a quality group of young horses perform especially when they are for sale.

Dito has made the long voyage to Australia by now. Has he settled in well?

Yes Dito has made himself right at home in Australia, he lives out in a big grassy paddock 24/7 and loves the Aussie lifestyle.

Have you shown him in competition yet?

Yes Dito has been to a few shows now and most of the time jumping clear in 1.20m he also won a open age young horse class at a World Cup show in Queensland which was very competitive with 80+ horses in the class with a jump off so that was a top effort for a young 5yr horse like him.

And now for something completely different: Considering your memorable pirouettes when completing a course with Vivant, are you going to teach this routine to Dito as well?

It's not hard to teach Dito any tricks so I am sure he will pick the pirouettes up really easily as he has a super uphill canter and he is a bit of a show off by nature so he will enjoy it I am sure.
