Sunday’s Billy Stud Spring Online Auction saw bidders from across the globe log in and bid. The chance to buy young British bred horses directly from the breeder certainly seems to be something that people can take confidence from. The bloodlines of these horses go all the way back to our foundation mares some 25 years ago. They have been nurtured in Surrey and their whole histories are available.

This week the two top priced horses from the auction Billy Buchannon (£43,000) and Billy Be Wise (£39,500) will leave for their new home in Italy with Fabrizia Stefani and Paolo Paini. Also heading overseas is Billy Tibet (£15,500) who will go to Poland with Alex Radnov.

The other seven horses from the collection will stay in the UK with the average price on the night being £20,000. 

William Funnell says: “We have been overwhelmed by the support for the auction given the current global situation. We took the decision early on to give our 5 and 6-year-old horses a break for a couple of months and spend this valuable time that we don’t usually get at home, concentrating on the development of our 4-year olds. We were delighted to see some of these horses stay in the UK, but we are equally pleased to see that foreign buyers have the confidence to buy British.”

Donal Barnwell says: “We had a meeting on Monday morning and the feeling was that so many people had expressed their disappointment in missing out on a horse from the first collection that it made sense for us to do this. We take great pride in our stud, and have done for 25 years now, it’s great to see the transition of people wanting to buy British breed horses directly from the source.”
