After three successful auctions and many references breaking through at international level, the team of The Youngsters Auction of Young Showjumpers is looking forward to the 4th edition on Tuesday 23 November 2021. For this year’s auction a slightly different concept: this auction is fully focussed on a high quality group of 3-year-old talents. In the spring of 2022, The Youngsters will organize another auction full of exclusive 5-, 6- and 7-year-old sporthorses, ready to perform on the international summer circuit.

Back with a live event!

In 2018 and 2019, The Youngsters organized a live auction with great guests, exciting horses and entertainment; due to the Covid 19-restrictions in 2020, The Youngsters had to move the auction to an online format. For the 2021 edition, The Youngsters aims for a live event with the possibility to bid online as well. “After our first two live editions, we were so motivated to continue this event. After one year of online auctions, this year we really would like to make our 4th auction into something special! We hope to create the same atmosphere as in our previous editions and with the quality of our horses, we truly believe to have made progress once again”, says Peter van der Waaij on behalf of the organization.

3-year-olds edition with talent, genetics & great types

This year’s edition of The Youngsters will fully consist of 3-year-olds. “In previous editions, we offered both loose jumpers and ridden sporthorses, but for now, we have decided to separate this into two auctions. On Tuesday 23 November 2021, we will auction a selection of 15 to 20 very high quality 3-year-olds; horses with talent as a showjumper, but also with great genetics and good types as a sporthorse. In the spring of 2022, we will present a group of ridden sporthorses who are ready to compete at international level and can join the international young horse circuit in the summer of 2022.”

More than 30 references at international level

In the previous three editions, numerous auction horses went to world’s most renowned stables. World-class riders like Kent Farrington, McLain Ward, Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann, Billy Twomey and Simon Delestre welcomed The Youngsters horses in their stables; other horses found their new homes in different countries, such as Poland, Kuwait, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the USA and Canada.

“We are very proud of our references in the past years. The oldest horses we have auctioned are now only 8 years old and we have seen already more than 30 of our references competing at international level”, tells Jasper van der Waaij.

Magnolia WS Magnolia WS (Inaico VDL x For Pleasure) 2020 top-seller of 3-year-olds.

8-year-old Je T’Aime Z successful at GP level

“Our first top-seller Je T’Aime Z was sold to the stables of Karel Cox, Johnny Pals and Billy Twomey and has been produced by these three stables up to international top level. Nowadays ridden by Italy’s Giampiero Garofalo, Je T’Aime Z has already delivered his first successful results at CSI2* Grand Prix level.”

Another successful reference is the highly competitive mare Karanza; this 6-year-old Eldorado van de Zeshoek daughter has secured many international victories with Poland’s Jaroslaw Skrzynczynski, after winning a bronze medal as a 5-year-old in the Polish championships with Slawomir Uchwat. The 2020 top seller Jikke-Cara was sold to USA’s Kent Farrington and is showing great talent ridden by Emily Ward. In the 2021 FEI WBFSH World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken, no less than three former auction horses competed; the 7-year-old Calvin Z and Sweden’s Linda Heed showed great potential in the world championships and earlier on in the season, already won the CSI1* Grand Prix of Drammen.

Sold as 3-year-olds, now at the World Championships

Jasper van der Waaij: “Sometimes customers are a bit hesitant of buying 3-year-olds, since loose jumping can differ from their performances under saddle. Our auction horses have been very carefully selected though and our references speak for themselves…”

The other two World Championships horses were both sold as 3-year-olds: Quantro ridden by Tobias Thoenes and Lamira ridden by Maartje Verberckmoes. The 5-year-old Emerald son Quantro showed enormous scope with his German rider, but an unlucky rail on day one kept them out of the final. The 5-year-old mare Lamira impresses with her athleticism, quality and great mindset and together with her talented young rider Maartje Verberckmoes, the Golden Dream daughter qualified for the final of the FEI World Championships.

One of the most eye-catching references of The Youngsters in the past two years is without a doubt Leicester (Harley VDL x Verdi). In 2019, Dutch rider Glenn Knoester purchased the gelding as a 3-year-old and produced him for the 2020 Dutch championships in Valkenswaard. Leicester showed his great talent and received a 9.1 for jumping, finishing 7thin the Dutch championships for 4-year-olds. His talent did not go unnoticed and Leicester was sold to Dominic Webb. The talented Norwegian rider Ada Braaten took over the reins and Leicester kept developing; with some impressive rounds on the young horse circuit in Scandinavia. Leicester became the Norwegian champion for 5-year-olds and was purchased by Olympic medallist Cian O’Connor. Future is looking very bright for the 5-year-old gelding Leicester.
