Edited press release from the Sunshine Tour
Thursday’s biggest class at the autumn-edition of the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera was the 1.45m Big Tour, in the David Broome arena, counting for the world ranking.
Designed by Javier Trenor, the course proved to be a fair test for the participants. The winner was the Spanish rider Mariano Martínez Bastida who stopped the clock at 60.90sec with Cleartoon (Cartoon x Voltaire). Great Britain’s Matt Sampson had to settle for second place, in a time of 61.17sec – just missing out on another victory with Curraghgraighe Obos Flight (Obos Quality 004 x Errigal Flight). However, Sampson had another reason to celebrate when his horse Firefly (Nabab de Reve x Voltaire), beautifully ridden by the Canadian Kara Chad, took third place close on his heels. Anthony Codon with SFS Vincomte (Veni Vidi Vici x Magic Darco) was 4th for Ireland and Bruce Goodin from New Zealand was 5th with Backatorps Danny (Quasimodo Z x Lupicor).
