Press release from the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour

The first week of the Spring MET IV 2019 at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva Nova, Spain concluded on Sunday with the CSI2* 1.45m Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort Grand Prix. With prize money worth 30,000 Euro and valuable Longines Ranking points on offer, 39 horse-and-rider combinations lined up for the competition. With beautiful, warm Spanish spring-weather and lots of spectators creating a fantastic atmosphere it was all set for a great afternoon of sport in Oliva Nova.

The course set in the beautiful Oliva Nova arena by the Spanish course designer Elena Boix counted 13 obstacles and 16 efforts in the first round. With eleven pairs clearing the first round and joining the deciding jump-off over a shortened, seven fence track, it was Pedro Veniss (BRA) on the 13-year-old mare Anaya Ste Hermelle (Andiamo x Paladin des Ifs) who ended up on top. With a time of 38,70 seconds, the Brazilian was unbeatable – once again.

“With eleven clears it was a good class,” Veniss commented on the course afterwards. ”I think this is Longines Ranking class number 29 that Anaya Ste Hermelle has won in the last year and a half,” Veniss smiled when speaking about his winning mount. “She is just so, so careful. When I bought her as a 7-year-old, she was almost too careful and very shy. Now she is just getting better and better. She is simply a really special horse.”

Talking about the facilities at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour, Veniss said: “It is a good place for me. It seems my horses are really happy here, and that for sure helps.”

Laura Renwick (GBR) on the 11-year-old gelding Dublin V (Vigaro x Calvados) took the runner-up position with a time of 39,42 seconds, while Greg Patrick Broderick (IRL) and the 10-year-old mare Dabelle (Nabab de Revelle x Chin Chin) ended up third. Antonio Matos Almeida (POR), who had a very succesful week at the Spring MET IV, took the fourth spot with the 10-year-old gelding Volver de la Vigne (Diamant de Semilly x Cumano), and the fifth spot went to Victoria Gulliksen (NOR) on the 10-year-old gelding Papa Roach (Perigueux x Zeus).
