The organisers of Jumping Amsterdam have today announced that due to the current Covid-19 restrictions in the Netherlands, the 2022-edition of the event will not be taking place. Jumping Amsterdam, which was scheduled for the 27th to the 30th of January 2022, was supposed to host one of the legs in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Western European League, which now is down to a total of nine legs after Jumping Mechelen also cancelled their 2021-edition earlier this month. The Netherlands recently went into lockdown due to the rapid spread of the Omicron-variant, and professional sport competitions can only take place without spectators.

On Jumping Amsterdam’s website, the organisers state:

“For the past year, the team of Jumping Amsterdam has been fully committed to the organization of Jumping Amsterdam 2022, focussed on preparing a great show despite the developments regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, following the announcement of new and stricter Covid-19 sanitary restrictions, the organization has been left with no choice but to move the 2022 edition, which should have taken place from the 27th to the 30th of January, to January 2023.

“This decision is very difficult for us,” says Irene Verheul, Sporting director responsible for Jumping Amsterdam. “The ticket sales has never been better, the hospitality was completely sold out and sponsors have been committed to Jumping Amsterdam for years. It is unbelievable that for the second year in a row, we have to move Jumping Amsterdam. Every possible scenario has been discussed, but unfortunately with the current measures and the uncertainty about the period after that, it is simply not possible. Jumping Amsterdam is an event which brings people together and where enjoying top sport comes first. Unfortunately that is currently not possible. A decision that is very, very difficult for us. A major setback for everyone!””
